Description
Oracle Database Architecture, Networking, and Securityare foundational aspects of managing a reliable, scalable, and secure database environment. The architecture of Oracle Database consists of two main components: theinstanceand thedatabase. The instance includes memory structures like the System Global Area (SGA) and Program Global Area (PGA), along with background processes such as DBWn, LGWR, SMON, and PMON, which handle memory management, logging, and recovery. The database itself consists of physical files, including datafiles, control files, and redo log files, and is logically organized into tablespaces, segments, extents, and blocks.
Oracle networking is facilitated through Oracle Net Services, which enables seamless communication between client applications and the Oracle Database. Key components include thelistener, which manages connection requests;tnsnames.ora, which defines service name mappings; andsqlnet.ora, which handles naming methods and security settings. Oracle supports multiple connection types, including dedicated and shared servers, and offers simplified connection options like Easy Connect.
Security in Oracle Database is multi-layered, beginning withauthentication(database, OS, or external methods) andauthorizationthrough roles and privileges. Oracle allows for both system and object-level privilege management, and supports advanced features likeroles, profiles, andpassword policies. To ensure data confidentiality and integrity, Oracle providesTransparent Data Encryption (TDE)for encrypting data at rest andnetwork encryptionfor secure data transmission.
