Hooked on pin-up since 2010, Dan Russell creates images that are sexy, classy, glamorous and flirtatious … and reminiscent of a simpler time.
Photography is in his blood – his great uncle had a successful studio in the Boston area.
"As a child, I remember always wanting a camera and I got my wish in the late 60’s when my father gave me (don’t laugh) a Polaroid Swinger! For those who may remember this little gem, it only shot black and white. Thus began my quest to become a professional photographer.
"Over the years, I was the photographer for my high school yearbook, did weddings, portraits and worked with some talented photographers.
"Fast forward to November 2010, out of the blue, my stepson sent me a link to some pinup photography. I thought of Alberto Vargas and Gil Elvgren, and I had a vision! With the support of my wife, Belinda, and the nudging of fellow photographer, mentor and friend, Don Jones, I embarked on my journey to learn how to create “the pinup”. Along the way, the images of Robert Alvarado and Michael Malak have been my contemporary influences and benchmarks".
