Unapologetic is the seventh studio album by Barbadian recording artist Rihanna, first released on November 19, 2012 through Def Jam Recordings. The album was recorded between June and November 2012, predominantly during Rihanna's promotion of her sixth studio album Talk That Talk (2011). As the executive producer of the album, Rihanna enlisted a variety of producers to collaborate with including Benny Blanco, David Guetta, StarGate and The-Dream.

Sonically, the album is rooted in pop, dance-pop and R&B but also incorporates a variety of other musical genres such as hip hop, electro house, electro, dancehall and dubstep. The album's first half features aggressive dance songs characterized by abrasive sound effects and eccentric beats, stylistically, the songs draw on dance-pop, chopped and screwed sounds, and dubstep. The album's second half contains ballads, disco, and rock. "Unapologetic" did incorporate dancehall themes as seen in her earlier albums Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006).

The album's lead single "Diamonds" made its premiere on iHeartRadio on September 26. After its release, the song has reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. To support the album, Rihanna will embark on the Diamonds World Tour beginning in March 2013.
