Kathleen Erin "Kate" Walsh (born October 13, 1967) is an American film and television actress, currently known for her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery (former wife of "Dr. McDreamy"), on the hit ABC series Grey's Anatomy. She was born in San Jose, California and grew up in Tucson, Arizona. She comes from an Irish-Italian family, because her father was Irish (he died when Kate was 22) and her mother is Italian. She studied at University of Arizona where she got involved in regional theatre. She was also a model in Japan during the 1980s and now lives in Los Angeles.
