Next month will mark a very important date for Australia — the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli. In recognition of this event, we have a few special items in this issue of Quilters Companion. We have an interview with Jan-Maree Ball of Aussie Hero Quilts, whose passion is to recognise all past and serving members of our defense force, Annette Gero, who provides some interesting background information on her upcoming War Quilts exhibition at Manly Art Gallery and Museum, and in a different link to the event, we have a project designed by Tamsin Harvey, which takes inspiration from Turkish tile designs.
There are also many other great projects. We have Paula Storm joining us for the first time to show us her needleturn by not needleturn appliqué method, plus we have Rachael Porter along again with another stunning fussy cut project. Chris Serong presents a beautiful traditional quilt, while Tammy Silvers has taken inspiration from the colours of autumn to create a baskets quilt with wool appliqué flowers. We have the second wallhanging in Hazel Foot’s New Zealand floral series and we have a bright and breezy quilt from Janelle Wind. Finally, we are joined by April Rosenthal with a precut friendly quilt. Michelle Marvig road tests a new Karen K Buckley tool and Deb Louie looks at utilising stencils when machine quilting.
