WINTERTIME – HUNTING TIME!
WINTERTYD – JAGTYD!
Winter is upon us but for us hunters, this is the best time of the year! In this issue we treat our readers to a collection of interesting, hands-on articles with the focus on hunting a variety of species in different environments. Hunting always places heavy demands not only on the hunter, but also on the gear. We therefore take a look at the equipment, skills and strategies that will contribute towards making your hunt a successful and memorable experience.
Contributor Laurence Jenning shares his story of a challenging Kalahari hunting expedition during which he and his six hunting companions bagged eight gemsbok and twenty-two springbok among the red sand dunes (p 34). Black wildebeest can be a worthy quarry – difficult to stalk and dangerous when wounded. Jokl le Roux talks about the nuts and bolts of these ‘clowns of the veld’ (p 40). Interested in hunting kudu? Then don’t miss Jokl’s article on p 46, in which he shares his strategies for hunting the ‘grey ghost’ during his latest hunt on their family farm in the Prince Albert region of the Eastern Cape.
Without Blaser’s technological advancements in the accuracy of firearms and world-class optics, responsible hunting would hardly be possible. Turn to p 22 for the latest developments on their scopes – the Infinity 1-7x28 iC, Infinity 2.8-20x50 iC, and the 4-20x58 IC.
