The Walking Dead is an American comic book created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, published monthly in black and white (with color covers) by Image Comics. It chronicles the travails of a group of people trying to survive in a world overrun by zombies.
The series debuted in 2003. Moore stopped doing the interior pages with issue #6 in 2004, although he continued to do the covers until issue #24 in 2005. Charlie Adlard took over interior art duty with issue #7 and cover art duty with issue #25.
The main protagonist is Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer who awakens from a coma to discover that the recently dead have become zombies that have wreaked havoc on civilization. We follow him as he attempts to find his loved ones and find sanctuary in a new and very dangerous world.
The series borrows many of its concepts as well as much of its tone from George A. Romero's zombie movies (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead).
