Forced Entry were a thrash metal trio from the Seattle area in a town called Mountlake Terrace. They formed in 1985 and were signed to Combat Records. They released two full length albums and were considered one of the best bands of the area, if not the west coast. They called it a day after the tour of their second album.

Mountlake Terrace Washington was where it all started in 1985 when Tony Benjamins, Colin Mattson, and Brad Hull formed the mighty Forced Entry. Seattle didn't have a metal scene at the time and I guess they decided to change that (do the Accused and Coven count?). The first listen to this album is breathtaking. The sound is great despite the low budget production. The thunderous bass errie trills, slides and power chords give this album a truly original sound in a time where everyone was trying to rip off Slayer (Blood Feast?), Metallica, or Possessed (the Florida scene?). I don't understand why a previous reviewer knocked this album and called it "generic". This person was either not alive and definitely not part of the scene when this came out, simply because if you have a broad comparison base of albums of this time period to compare this to you couldn't call this "generic". Thrash was foreved changed after this, with not a bad song on here, and the over-the-top bass in the end this was the band who you would have thought good things would have come from later. Unfortunately there was only one other full length album after this one.

The bass is probably the best part of the trio with its quick playing, slides and thick tone. The guitars are wonderful too, with power chords that are really heavy and meld into the bass lines and with eerie solos and harmonics that give this album a very polished feel. The drumming is good, and the tom rolls lift the general atmosphere of the sound. The songs are all incredibly well written. This is probably the most(?) underappreciated album of the genre. Just shows you what idiots metalheads are, you give them something good/technically proficient and they just shrug. Didn't the same thing happen to Coroner?

This album is just waiting to be fully appreciated.

Forced Entry - As Above, So Below (1991)

As Above So Below is the final recording from Seattle-area thrash heroes Forced Entry. Musically similar to their earlier efforts, this 1991 Combat/Relativity records release boasts a punchier sound and slightly more technical material than prior efforts by the band. Brad Hull's guitar work is especially impressive, and his bandmates Collin Mattson (drums) and Tony Benjamins (bass and vocals) also deliver some creative and powerful performances of their own. The relentless and well-focused opener "Bone Crackin' Fever" and "When One Becomes Two" are highlights for sure, but the performances on As Above So Below are all very consistent, and although the same cannot be said for the material on this swan song, thrash fans unfamiliar with the regionally important Forced Entry might want to check out this their best sounding (if not best-realized) effort.
