Fans of Liquid Tension Experiment and of high instrumental technicity were the targets of the first album of the Germans of Force Of Progress. Three years later, the four-piece collective welcomes four guest guitarists for their second album "A Secret Place".
Contradicting the terms of its name, Force Of Progress didn't evolve between its two albums, namely that the band offers a virtuoso progressive Metal that is still dominated by keyboards. The art according to Force Of Progress must be firstable technical rather than harmonic. Yet the melody exists but is drowned in so many sound variations and rhythmic changes of all kinds, nothing or almost nothing emerges.
Repeating the observations we made for "Calculated Risk", the most intelligible tracks are those that don't exceed a certain dosage of technicity like 'New Reality' which offers a good contrast between big saturations and lighter flights of fancy or the jazzy 'The Three Steps To The Precipice'. As for the rest, you'll have to be selective in order to glean the most relevant moments, such as the funky groovy passage of 'The Perfect Element', the folk minutes of 'Circus Maximus' or the piano seconds that emerge from the maelstrom of keyboards in the indigestible 'Äggressor'.
If the requirement to listen to 'Calcultated Risk' was already high, it becomes more and more difficult to follow the constructions of Force Of Progress in this esoteric and hermetic 'A Secret Place'. The Germans will have to question themselves about their writing in order not to become a band only turned towards its own satisfaction.
