Broken Hearted On Valentine's Day was a 4-song EP released by the California garage rock/punk band The Lazy Cowgirls. They began in Indiana in 1985 before moving west and making an indie name for themselves before calling it a day in 2004, almost twenty years after their start. This was released by Sympathy For The Record Industry.
EPs get cut-out fast these days. This is almost 2 years old, but it's headed to the dustbin, and you need to act fast. Everybody and his mother's been trying to hook me on the Cowgirls; beyond "Goddam Bottle," which my loveable editor laid on me over a couple of goddam bottles, I've never been that impressed–until this. Blazing original, hot obscure Holly cover, rocked-up Cash cover, mournful title song, over before it gets boring and blaring. Seems to me that the Cowgirls are really the only neo-garage band that truly appreciate the riffing of Chuck Berry and the flat-out velocity of Little Richard, and they stir it up with the fucked-up good times of the Heartbreakers. Ragged Soul, here I come.

A 4-song novelty release for V-Day of this year, all dealing with Da Blues of love gone wrong. Everything the Cowgirls does is great but these sound like 4 album tracks. I can't point to any song and say that's a single worthy of it's own release. But like I said, it's the Cowgirls so eat poop if you don't like it. Still, I wonder what the impetus was for putting this out.

Trivia: a Lazy Cowgirls album was Sympathy's 1st release way back when ice cream was a nickel and kids respected their elders. Dagnabbit I miss those days.
