Canadian songwriter/poet/guitarist Bruce Cockburn has been putting out albums since the early 70's. Where most artists are lucky if they can make one or two quality albums, Bruce has made dozens. He is one of the most prolific songwriters of the last four decades. And his style has grown and expanded over the years and albums. It would be difficult to describe his style - his works encompass folk, rock, jazz, world, and spoken word. He is a talented guitarist, known for his singular sound. His poetry and lyrics are powered by his great human compassion, and bravely address some of the most powerful issues of our times.
"You Pay Your Money And You Take Your Chance" is a recording of a live concert, made at the Barrymore Theater, in Madison Wisconsin, USA, on May 3, 1997. The quality of the musicianship and production is so high that it's difficult at times, to tell that this album wasn't made in the studio. Followers of Mr. Cockburn's music will recognize several of the tunes. This is also an excellent album to introduce new listeners to his huge talent.
