New age composer Mike Rowland was born in London in 1958. As a youngster, Rowland showed a natural affinity for composing and playing the piano. He played the church organs at Albert Hall and St. Paul's Cathedral; while at home, he created dreamy compositions at his piano and synthesizer.

Mike Rowland's 1982 new age classic Fairy Ring was recorded in Rowland's living room. Whilst walking in the forest, he heard an otherworldly, yet humble, melody. Back in his living room, Rowland set up a tape recorder and played the music as best he could remember. After mixing in some orchestral strings with a synthesizer, Fairy Ring was complete. Rowland made duplicates on his home tape recorder and distributed them to friends and stores. It was high on innocence, shy on panache, and this flowing calm music, performed on piano and strings, has no turbulence, and is as relaxing as any recording you will hear. Many have tried to copy Rowland's style, but no-one has ever managed to duplicate his simplicity and mystical innocence and charm - and it is this that has made The Fairy Ring one of the best-selling recordings of all time.
