LP rip | Experimental Electronic | 1969 | mp3 196 kbps avg with cue file | 34 min | 47MB | covers photos
On this LP, Hyman experiments with the possibilities of the Moog, as an instrument or accompaniment device. Listen carefully Minotaur (Keith Emerson of EL&P I think he did it). Walter Sear is the "Sound Ingeneer", the other musicians are : Art Ryerson and Art Berliner on guitars; Chet Amsterdam on bass and Buddy Saltzman on drums.
Dick Hyman (born March 8, 1927, New York City) is an American jazz pianist/keyboardist and composer best known for his versatility with jazz piano styles. Over a 50 year career he has functioned as pianist, organist, arranger, music director, and, increasingly, as composer. His versatility in all of these areas has resulted in well over 100 albums recorded under his own name and many more in support of other artists.
Hyman may make his living playing Gershwin and Berlin on the piano, and composing the scores for Woody Allen's films, but his legacy will remember him as the goofy synthecist and organist on Enoch Light's trippy big band series for ABC's Command label during the 1960s. Moog contains that balance of lounge cheese and honest propulsion so desired by the kids nowadays. And the bonus cut of James Brown's "Give It Up or Turn It Loose" mixes Donald Duck sputtering with real funky-ass drums. Beastie Boy-types name-check Hyman whenever the opportunity arises. I wonder if he knows? –D. Strauss
