A million and one bands followed the Ramones, aping and aiming for the perfect three-chord sneer as well as the proper velocity for punk. One of the longest-lasting (but that's not saying much, really) punk bands with the Ramones' vibe are the Queers. While most bands just went for the speed of the Ramones, the Queers also chose to follow up on Joey R. and pals' other tendency – the Phil Spector/Brian Wilson '60s pop sound. While the previous album, Beyond the Valley…, was filled with two-minutes-or-less compositions describing how various people suck or could f*ck off, the Today EP also brings the Spector/Wilson sound in as a major component. Even the Beach Boys' "Salt Lake City" makes an appearance, with the Queers going so far as to even incorporate an organ! While this EP holds nothing essential for non-fans, those involved with the more commercial bands holding the pop-punk banner would do well to take a listen.
