BSkyB - Ladyboys (2012)

Following last year's successful documentary exploring the world of Thailand's ladyboys, this new thought-provoking series offers further insight into a sector of Thai society that makes up one per cent of the country's population. This revealing documentary explores the world of transsexuals in Thailand, and follows two Americans who travel to Bangkok for sex change surgery, and a British ex-pat looking for love.

Part 1: Celebrity Ladyboys
Following the stories of Thai transsexuals who have risen to fame. Belle is about to release a debut single after revealing her true identity on a talent show, and Poy won the transgender equivalent of Miss World. Business owner Nok reveals how hard it can be for transgender individuals to be accepted in the eyes of the law, and now campaigns for change.

Part 2: Ladyboy Beauty Queens
Two-dozen transsexuals from across the globe arrive, weighed down by bags of costumes, pneumatic breast implants and complex personal histories. Men they were not – they were female in almost every way.

Part 3: The Men who Love Ladyboys
In this programme we also look at the relationships between Thai ladyboys and Western men. This is not just a sex-tourism thing, as often portrayed by the media. It is not unusual for them to develop long-lasting and tender bonds.

Part 4: The Ladyboy Capital of the World
An exploration of the ladyboy shows in Pattaya, a once sleepy Thai fishing village that is now the ladyboy capital of the world. Plus, a behind-the-scenes look at the running of Alcazar, a popular transgender cabaret venue, where acts flock to in search of fame and fortune.

Part 5: Ladyboy Surgery
Investigating gender-reassignment surgery in Thailand, following transsexuals as they challenge perceptions to achieve financial success in their chosen careers and fight national law to be officially accepted as women.

Part 6: Doing It for Themselves
Businessman Chan hopes his $4million investment in the ladyboy business will be rewarded. There is also an update on the progress of Miss International Queen runner-up Sahhara as she records her latest single in her new home-city of London, and Nok is considering tackling Thailand's discriminatory laws head on.
