A Baby Mammoth DVD begins its story in a very remote part of Central Siberia, where gold miners uncover a fully intact frozen from a prehistoric era. Scientists study how the animal lived, died and determined that it may be a possibility to successfully clone the extinct mammal. Baby Mammoth video is an amazing look at how far science has come and how the advances may mean Mammoths will once again roam the earth. In Baby Mammoth, travel back to prehistory and get an unprecedented glimpse into the future – as scientists contemplate the possibility of cloning a real baby mammoth. The saga begins in remote central Siberia, where gold miners unearth an intact, frozen baby mammoth from the Pleistocene Era. In the Baby Mammoth video, an exclusive Discovery Channel program, scientists study not only how the ancient animal lived and died but determine that cloning the mammoth could become a reality in our lifetimes. Join top paleontologists and experts in high-tech DNA technology and cutting-edge forensic science as they unveil the ice-covered world of the mammoth and explore the possibility that these mighty animals could walk the Earth again. Watch as scientists investigate a fully intact frozen baby mammoth, found by miners in Siberia, for clues as to how it lived, died and how they might successfully clone the currently extinct creature.

Part 2: Extra Raising the Mammoth
In 1998, a team led by a French archaeologist went to upper Siberia, following the tip that there may have been a woolly mammoth encased in the permafrost. The team was forced to rely on local nomads for help in locating the beast; the natives were the first to locate the mammoth's huge tusks. Fighting the unforgiving climate, the team only had a small window of time in which to work before the Siberian winter would stop them; indeed, they had to return the following year to unearth the gigantic prehistoric animal. Eventually they wound up airlifting out, with an enormous Soviet-era cargo helicopter, a huge block of ice with two tusks sticking out and a mammoth inside. In typically exhaustive Discovery Channel fashion, Raising the Mammoth not only follows the efforts of the determined archaeologists, but discusses the history and evolution of the mammoth, theories about the species' demise, and the possibilities of using mammoth DNA to produce clones with today's technology (shades of Jurassic Park). It's a fascinating look at what had to be an enormous struggle, one that paid off in terms of scientific knowledge and archaeological significance.
