Our film is a legend! In 1964, Henri-Georges Clouzot chose 26 years-old Romy Schneider and 42 years-old Serge Reggiani, to be the leads of L’ENFER. An enigmatic and original project; an unlimited budget; a film, which was meant to be the cinematographic event at its release. However, after 3 weeks into filming, drama happens. The project is interrupted and the images, which were told to be “incredible”, will never be shown.
I have recovered those images that were forgotten for half a century and they are more mind-blowing than the legend predicted. They are telling a unique film, that of madness and jealousy filmed from a subjective point of view, the story of a cursed filming and that of Henri-Georges Clouzot, who had set free his mad film making talent. Romy Schneider has never been so beautiful and magnetic. Never a director has been so close to the hero he invented. Our film shows L’ENFER such as it was shot and tells the emotional story of a magnificent failure.

En 1964, Henri Georges Clouzot choisit Romy Schenider, 26 ans, et Serge Reggiani, 42 ans, pour etre les vedettes de L'Enfer. Un projet enigmatique et insolite, un budget illimite, un film qui devait etre un "evenement" cinematographique a sa sortie. Mais apres 3 semaines de tournage, le drame. Le projet est interrompu, et les images que l'on disait "incroyables" ne seront jamais devoilees. Ces images, oubliees depuis un demi-siecle, ont ete retrouvees et elles sont plus epoustouflantes que la legende l'avait predit. Elles racontent un film unique, la folie et la jalousie filmees en camera subjective, l'histoire d'un tournage maudit et celle d'Henri Georges Clouzot qui avait laisse libre cours a son genie de cineaste. Jamais Romy n'a ete aussi belle et hypnotique. Jamais un auteur n'aura ete aussi proche et fusionnel avec le heros qu'il a invente. Serge Bromberg et Ruxandra Medrea reussissent ici une "recomposition" de l'oeuvre disparue, creant un nouveau film qui raconte l'histoire de ce naufrage magnifique et qui permet au projet d'exister enfin.
