Xu Sanduo goes to regimental HQ to visit a friend from his village, now a machine gunner in armoured company, and to buy flower seeds to decorate his road. His comrades in guard post hope that he will realize how meaningles their duty is, but Sanduo is not shaken upon his return. That motivates his Squad Commander to try and shape up his unit once again, but that does not come easy to other three soldiers.
