La vita di Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) viene improvvisamente sconvolta quando scopre di essere stata tagliata fuori dalla squadra di softball. Tutto ciò per cui aveva lavorato duramente dall'età di otto anni è finito e, per la prima volta nella sua vita, non sa cosa fare. In questa situazione, decide di consolarsi iniziando un’avventura con Matty (Owen Wilson), un bravissimo lanciatore di baseball, egocentrico e narcisista.

The life of Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) is suddenly turned upside down when he discovers that it has been cut off from the softball team. Everything he had worked hard since the age of eight years is over and, for the first time in his life, he does not know what to do. In this situation, he decides to console himself by starting an affair with Matty (Owen Wilson), a talented baseball pitcher, egocentric and narcissistic.
Madison George (Paul Rudd) is an honest businessman whose relationship with his father, Charles (Jack Nicholson), everything changes when George is unjustly accused of a financial crime. Despite the risk of ending up in prison, George's honesty, his integrity and his optimism seems to be the only way to maintain mental balance.
