In questa seconda parte della trilogia che il regista greco ha cominciato con La sorgente del fiume, presentato nel 2004 al festival di Berlino, troviamo A. regista cinquantenne deciso a raccontare attraverso un film la storia dei suoi genitori, Spyros e Eleni. La storia d'amore di questi due emigranti greci, è sempre stato influenzata dagli eventi storici: la II Guerra Mondiale li separa e costringe Spyros a partire per gli Stati Uniti; in seguito alla Guerra Civile in Grecia, Eleni si ritrova in Siberia con altri esiliati politici; è invece la Guerra in Vietnam a costringere Spyros a tarsferirsi in Canada mentre la caduta del Muro di Berlino segnerà un cambiamento profondo nella sua esistenza…
