A Computer-Aided Design and Synthesis Environment for Analog Integrated Circuits addresses the design methodologies and CAD tools that are available for the systematic design and design automation of analog integrated circuits. Two complementary approaches are discussed. In the first part the AMGIE analog synthesis system is described. AMGIE is the first analog synthesis system that automates the full design process from specifications down to verified layout.

This book presents a stochastic extension of process algebra called PEPA that is suitable for specifying a Markov process, which can then be applied to performance modeling. This method, which the author illustrates with case studies taken from the area of communication systems, can readily be used to construct a variety of models that can be analyzed using standard numerical techniques. One of the major advantages of PEPA over the standard methods for specifying stochastic performance models is the inherent apparatus for reasoning about the structure and behavior of models. In the later chapters this apparatus is exploited to define four equivalence relations over PEPA components. Each of these notions of equivalence has intrinsic interest from a process algebra perspective. However, the author also demonstrates them to be useful in a performance modeling context. To conclude the book, the author surveys recent results in the area and discusses open questions. This book will appeal to researchers in computer science and electrical engineering.

The SIXTH CONFERENCE ON AUTOMATED DEDUCTION, held on June 7-9, 1982, at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University, included the resentation of 23 papers selected by the program committee, a keynote address by Lawrence Wos, and an invited talk by John McCarthy (the latter not included in this volume). The conference is the primary international forum for reporting research in all aspects of automated deduction. This volume contains the papers presented at the 10th International Conference on Automated Deduction (CADE-10). CADE is the major forum at which research on all aspects of automated deduction is presented. Although automated deduction research is also presented at more general artificial intelligence conferences, the CADE conferences have no peer in the concentration and quality of their contributions to this topic. The papers included range from theory to implementation and experimentation, from propositional to higher-order calculi and nonclassical logics; they refine and use a wealth of methods including resolution, paramodulation, rewriting, completion, unification and induction; and they work with a variety of applications including program verification, logic programming, deductive databases, and theorem proving in many domains. The volume also contains abstracts of 20 implementations of automated deduction systems. The authors of about half the papers are from the United States, many are from Western Europe, and many too are from the rest of the world. The proceedings of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th CADE conferences are published as Volumes 87, 138, 170, 230, 310 in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science.
