A number of cards are dealt and put onto the board at the start of each game of solitaire. These cards are called facedown cards.
It's not usual to deal all cards at the start of a game of solitaire. The remaining cards are placed on the stock pile.
Each game has one or more waste piles.
It's your goal to move all cards on the board to a foundation pile in most of Hotel Solitaire's games. Some games have a separate foundation pile, however the waste pile doubles as a foundation pile in most of these games.
