Chano Dominguez, Emaginario - The Blues Around Us (2025) [Official Digital Download 24/96]

Unifying Sounds debuts its first album release entitled The Blues Around Us by former Blue Note Records pianist, Chano Domínguez and avant-garde guitarist Ethan Margolis, aka “Emaginario,”. Both artists have dedicated their lives to the human connections found in genre-fusing music. Domínguez hails from Cádiz, Spain and Margolis was raised outside of Cleveland, OH, but their musical bond was founded on the belief that music is meant to connect and to transcend boundaries.

The Blues Around Us is a beautifully-crafted album of Jazz-Blues with rhythmic underpinnings from Spain. The music was inspired by jazz-blues masters such as Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, and Wes Montgomery while at the same time incorporating innovative aspects of flamenco music. The compositions, all original, were crafted meticulously - mostly by Margolis - for the interpretative style of Domínguez.

Margolis says: "After more than a decade of living in Spain, I met Chano, and we quickly realized the potential of our musical connection. We have both dedicated so much of our lives to the modern exploration of Jazz, Blues and Flamenco music that it was only natural to record an album inspired by these investigations. We believe in the imperfect beauty of humanity and in musical genres that are driven by the spirit, not by finance. As a producer, I am particularly motivated by the emotional sonic palate of engineers like Fred Plaut and Rudy Van Gelder. With this album, we attempted to deliver a message reminiscent of the warmth and humanity transmitted in those recordings."
