The legendary partnership between Pehr Henrik Nordgren, the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, and its conductor Juha Kangas continues with this wonderful recording. For this release, the musicians have chosen Nordgren’s works Concerto No. 2 for piano, strings and percussion, his Concerto for piano left hand only and chamber orchestra, and his Song cycle to poems by Edith Sodergran for mezzo-soprano, strings and harp. Joining the Orchestra for this recording is pianist Henri Sigfridsson and mezzo-soprano Monica Groop. Nordgren’s compositional style features a unique blend of twelve tone technique, tone clusters, and elements of traditional Japanese and Finnish folk music. His cooperation with the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra produced a great number of orchestral works during the composer’s lifetime.
