Porcupine Tree - like band: the same progressive school :)

Well they say that imitation must be the sincerest form of flattery. If that's the case Steven Wilson must really be blushing. Abigails Ghost is an exciting new band from Louisiana that have set their sights on developing a modern progressive rock sound. The bio on the band is pretty sparse - apparently they are pretty young but it's obvious that they are exceptionally good musicians. Although it's clear that Tool and Rush are influences on Abigails Ghost the pink elephant in the room that must be addressed is how much they sound like Porcupine Tree. There are parts of this disc that you would think were out-takes from In Absentia or Deadwing. It's quite startling actually. The thing is that these guys pull it off so well that it's an attraction rather than a distraction. Let's fact it Porcupine Tree has in themselves become an influence on many bands today. Abigails Ghost is one of them - they just do it better than most. As much as I love old school prog I can appreciate something that is as well crafted as this. If you like your prog to sound fresh and current than you can't go wrong with this disc. I can't wait to see where they go from here. Highest recommendation. A buy or die release.
