Autodesk PowerMill 2020.0.2 Update

Autodesk PowerMill 2020.0.2 Update | 250.1 mb

The Autodesk NC CAM team has released an update to PowerMill 2020.0. The last release of PowerMill represents a significant shift in development in recent years – with a clear focus on usability, reliability, and speed.

PowerMill 2020.0.2 fixed issues:

Toolpaths:
- Fixed an issue with area clearance toolpaths that caused more areas than necessary to be removed by the small area filters, in particular when Flat Machining was turned on.
- Fixed an issue that caused PowerMill to close unexpectedly when attempting to calculate a toolpath that was defined from a toolpath template that referred to a machine tool.
- Fixed an issue that caused PowerMill to close unexpectedly when calculating a rest boundary with particular thickness values.
- Fixed an issue that caused links that used cutting feed rate to be incorrectly identified as plunging into stock.
- Fixed an issue that caused point parameters to be discarded when editing orientation vectors or tool axes within a region.
- Fixed an issue that caused the start position of raster additive toolpaths on a planar base to start away from the specified corner.
- Fixed an issue that caused PowerMill to close unexpectedly when calculating a feature construction or surface coating toolpath using an offset from the medial axis.
- Fixed an issue where the layer indices on an additive toolpath were set incorrectly..
General:
- Fixed an issue that caused PowerMill to close unexpectedly when calculating toolpaths on computers using CPUs that do not support the SSE4.2 instruction set. SSE4.2 was first introduced into some CPUs in 2007 and is standard in most CPUs produced since 2014.
- If PowerMill closes unexpectedly, it should no longer display an incorrect warning message reporting that there is no serial number.
- An issue has been fixed that prevented the 3D Connexion SpaceMouse from working correctly when plug-ins are loaded.
PowerMill Robot plug-in:
- Point parameters on the final point of a component now appear in the RobSim file.
- The cutting feed rate is now used for additive moves in RobSim files.
- PowerMill Robot now treats additive moves like cutting moves rather than link moves. PowerMill Robot 2019 no longer needs to be uninstalled for this.

Autodesk PowerMill 2020.0.2 Update

About Autodesk PowerMill 2020. PowerMill is Autodesk’s CAM solution for high-speed and five-axis machining. It offers a comprehensive range of strategies and powerful editing tools to ensure efficient, safe and accurate machining, especially for companies that are using sophisticated CNC machine tools to produce complex shapes in challenging materials. PowerMill is used in a wide range of industries but is particularly successful in mold, tool and die, complex aerospace and automotive applications.

The release of PowerMill 2020 represents a significant shift in development in recent years – with a clear focus on usability, reliability, and speed.

The previous releases of PowerMill have seen significant improvements in terms of robustness and safety. Technology such as collision avoidance using automatic tool-axis tilting makes it easier for CAM programmers to create safe NC code that can be run on their CNC machines. Autodesk’s pursuit of safe, collision-free toolpaths has resulted in the introduction of additional safety checks within the core PowerMill algorithm. These safety checks are a good thing – but they do carry a processing overhead which can have an impact on overall calculation time.

In direct response to feedback from customers and internal users, the Autodesk PowerMill team re-focused its development muscle on outright performance (speed).

The 2020 release offers significant speed improvements to toolpath calculation, simulation, and verification, plus enhanced leads and links, uphill corner finishing and a new model filleting option for Optimized Constant Z and Steep and Shallow Finishing.
