Autodesk Simulation CFD 2018.2.0 Update| 363.0 mb

Autodesk Inc., a world leader in 3D design software for entertainment, natural resources, manufacturing, engineering, construction, and civil infrastructure, has released an update to Simulation CFD 2018. This software provides computational fluid dynamics and thermal simulation tools to help you make great products.

Issues Addressed in the Update

These are the primary enhancements in this Update:
- Support for the NX 11 launcher was added.
- Support for the PTC Creo 4 launcher was added.
- The on-line help is now fully localized in Korean (along with Japanese and German) allowing in-product help links to connect directly to the localized topics in the help.
There were several additional issues that were resolved:
- Several simulations that were run (locally) with the Scalable Solver produced results that were different when run with the Classic Solver.
- The solver exited during final output calculations when the SST RC (SM) Turbulence model was enabled and the "Strain Rate" result quantity was selected.
- If a model containing monitor points was updated and the length units were changed, the monitor points would be displaced to a different location in the model.
- When launching a specific model from SpaceClaim, an additional surface wrap volume was created around the main assembly when a sphere was overlapped with it.
- When using Surface Refinement with Automatic meshing, the boundary layer mesh layers were sometimes significantly larger than expected in some regions of the mesh. This issue involved the size field generated under surface-autosizing for periodic surfaces.
- The Part Calculator displayed incorrect temperature units for certain parts that were assigned as Heat Exchanger material devices.
- A specific Revit model could not be loaded into Autodesk® CFD 2017 due to a crash. The model could be loaded into Autodesk CFD 2016.
- A crash occurred when any of Unicode language UIs were active (Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese) when saving a design study after changing the Scenario Material Environment setting.
- When a Scalar boundary condition was defined with a Piecewise Linear variation for a transient simulation, the solution results showed negative values for the Scalar result.
- In a particular model with a planar inlet, it was not possible to apply a Fully Developed inlet boundary condition. This was due to too tight of a tolerance value that falsely indicated the surface was not planar, and thus prevented the application of the Fully Developed boundary condition.
- It was not possible to change the mesh size on a group of surfaces by selecting the Group. (The ability to select individual surfaces was not affected.)
- The viscosity definition for SAE Hydraulic Oil ISO VG 32 (10W) was updated to allow for improved accuracy of material property values.
- If a Compact Thermal Model (CTM) device was not touching a fluid, the simulation was allowed to proceed, even though an error message was issued indicating that this is not a supported configuration. A fix was made that prevents the simulation from running if a CTM device does not touch a fluid part.
- A crash occurred in several non-English UIs (Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Russian) when attempting to open the Component Thermal Summary File.

About Autodesk Simulation CFD 2018. Autodesk CFD 2018 contains several new features and functional updates designed to improve the solving capabilities, simulation fidelity, and the overall user experience.
Scalable Solver
The scalable solver improvements have continued to bring additional capabilities. The scalable solver now supports:
- Heat Sink material
- Transient analyses
- Radiation.
Solving in the Cloud
- Cloud Credit Usage
Cloud solves will move from a flat rate to a tiered model based on simulation complexity. For example, an analysis with complex physics (radiation or compressible) that are harder to solve will cost more cloud credits. Jobs cancelled through the Simulation Job Manager will now have a pro-rated fee. Cancelled jobs will have a variable fee of at least 5 cloud credits. The amount increases for jobs run longer before being stopped.
Change to Default Advection Scheme
After year of testing performance, ADV 5 has become the most popular and recommended advection scheme. To increase efficiency and fidelity of results ADV 5 has been made the default advection scheme. Studies from previous versions will not have the advection scheme changed upon importing them into Autodesk CFD 2018. New studies created will default to ADV 5. When comparing results to a legacy model verify that the advection scheme is the same in both versions to maintain the best comparison.
Improved Stability for Transient Simulations with Flow Pulled through the Analysis
Longer running transient simulations with a flow rate at the outlet have experienced stability issues. A new flag, adv5_no_dtime, was added to improve stability in these types of analyses (common setup for Turbo Machinery). The new flag excludes the time step size consideration while estimating the stabilization parameter while using ADV 5. This setting is advised if seeing instability at the inlet of a transient analysis with flow being pulled out of the model.
