COMSOL, the leading provider of software solutions for multiphysics modeling has released version 6.1 (282) hotfix 1 of the COMSOL Multiphysics software. In base release introduces new functionality for detached eddy simulation, thermal analysis of satellites, winding layouts for electric motors, and robust mechanical contact.

Magnetic and Electric Fields Interface Coupled with Electrical Circuit Interface Gives an Unexpected Error for Transient Studies

This hotfix for the COMSOL software version 6.1 update 1 resolves a problem when trying to solve a coupled, time-dependent model with a Magnetic and Electric Fields interface and an Electrical Circuit interface. To install this hotfix for COMSOL Multiphysics and COMSOL Server, perform the following steps:

This hotfix only applies to Build 282 of COMSOL 6.1. Please note that installing this fix on Build 252 of COMSOL 6.1 will result in an invalid installation.

COMSOL Multiphysics

For Windows, follow these steps:
- Make sure that you have the latest version, 6.1 update 1 (Build 282), installed. Start 6.1 update 1. On the File menu, choose Help and then click About COMSOL Multiphysics. Verify that the version is 6.1 and that the build is 282.
- Download the file comsol_6.1.0.282_win.exe.
- Double-click the downloaded executable file to launch the installer and click Next to initiate the installation.
- On the Select Destination Folder tab, specify your current COMSOL installation directory, for example, C:\Program Files\COMSOL\COMSOL61\Multiphysics. Click Next.
- Click Install and Close.

A new interface enables the analysis of battery packs with several hundred cells. Simulation of acoustically driven flows is made possible by a new acoustic streaming interface. New mesh repair tools for the handling of misaligned models provide an alternative to traditional CAD repair and defeaturing. Direct modeling operations make it possible to perform parametric sweeps of imported CAD models and optimize them. New functionality for including direct shadows in visualizations provides enhanced depth perception.
