ESTECO has launched modeFRONTIER 2019 R1 is a multidisciplinary and multi-objective software written to allow easy coupling to any computer aided engineering (CAE) tool. modeFRONTIER refers to the so-called “Pareto Frontier”: it’s the ideal limit beyond which every further implementation compromises the system; in other words, it represents the set of best solutions possible.

The complex algorithms within modeFRONTIER can spot the optimal results, even conflicting with each other or belonging to different fields. Optimization is the key to reach this goal, achievable through integration with multiple calculation tools and explicable by effective post-processing tools.

- We've discontinued the support for the WebService Operation node. It is no longer available from this release.
- We will discontinue the support for the Optimization Wizard from the next release due to the fact that its functionality has become obsolete with the introduction of the Self-initializing and Autonomous modes of the optimization algorithms.

User Experience

Share and organize custom templates
Many of our customers have greatly appreciated the introduction of template projects. We listened to your requests and we've introduced the possibility to have more than one custom template folder. Now, you can better organize your templates, share them with your colleagues or keep them all to yourself until they're ready.
Meet the new RSM Tool
We've completely redesigned the RSM training tool to make it easier and more efficient for you to use. We've eliminated redundancies and created a more intuitive interface with a step indicator that keeps you informed on your progress. In this way you can navigate back and forth while you fine-tune your training configuration. To help less experienced and advanced users alike, we've introduced smart defaults that help you train RSMs quickly and with less clicks.
Create multiple DOE tables
Creating DOEs manually has become optional for most optimization algorithms. However, that hasn't stopped us from improving manual creation and make it as smooth and as flexible as possible.
You can now create multiple DOE tables by combining three design creation methods: DOE algorithms, import from file and import from Design Space.
Save the results in a custom table
With this release we introduce the concept of the Session Table that replaces the Designs Table. This gives you several advantages.
You can choose where you want to save the results of each run: in a new separate table each time or always in the same table without overwriting any data. You can try out multiple DOE and optimization strategies without duplicating the project and keep the tables with the results of all runs in this project. In this way, you can compare the results of many different runs to extract the all-time best designs. Moreover, if you want to change the problem scope by, for example, by adding or removing some inputs or outputs, no data is ever lost.

Design Space Improvements

Easier RSM validation
Along with a more user-friendly RSM training tool, we've also made the RSM validation easier. To help you spot the best and the worst RSMs for each output the best performance index values are colored green, whereas the worst values are colored red.
Monitor trends better in the History chart
When searching for an optimal design your focus is often on how the best design evolves to achieve project objectives. To help you see it, you can now plot a line that connects and highlights all best designs, whether you're looking to minimize or maximize a value.
New table creation feature
One of the features we want to focus on in the near future is to customize tables in the Design Space and give you more flexibility when creating and editing tables. The first step towards this is our new table creation feature. With one click you can now create an empty table that reflects the Workflow structure, and then paste or import designs in it or use it as Session Table.

Algorithm Improvements

New autonomous RSM algorithm
We continue to expand the integration with the H2O.ai library in our suite of RSM algorithms to cover the machine learning field. H2O.ai is a state-of-the-art machine learning platform that supports the most widely used statistical and machine learning algorithms. In this release we've added the AutoML and Distributed Random Forest algorithms.
H2O.ai Automatic Machine Learning (AutoML) automates the machine learning workflow, that includes automatic training and tuning of many models to produce the top performing model. The algorithm interface is designed so that all you need to do is to specify a time limit in which you want to finish the run.

modeFRONTIER is an integration platform for multi-objective and multi-disciplinary optimization. It provides a seamless coupling with third party engineering tools, enables the automation of the design simulation process, and facilitates analytic decision making.

In today’s business world, multidisciplinary approach is key for a successful design process. Designers are required to simultaneously consider multiple perspectives to determine the global optimal solution, facing an ever increasing problem complexity. With modeFRONTIER, the process is streamlined combining objectives relating to variables of different disciplines.

The powerful workflow enable the execution of complex chains of design optimization, innovative algorithms determine the set of best possible solutions combining opposing objectives, and post-processing tools allows the user to perform sophisticated statistical analysis, data visualization and decision making.

The user profiles enable multidisciplinary engineering practices to consolidate specialized expertise and streamline teamwork by allocating software resources where needed. Depending on the step of the engineering problem at hand, it is possible to access different functionalities within the same installation through dedicated modules (modeSPACE and modePROCESS) or directly in modeFRONTIER, according to the profile of the user.

modeFRONTIER 2019R1 supports Java 2 SDK features and capabilities and was tested successfully against the JDK 1.8.0_172 version. The modeFRONTIER packaging includes the JRE (JAVA Runtime Environment) for Windows and Linux platforms.
