The FunctionBay product team is pleased to announce the availability of RecurDyn V9R3. The new release allows to better design with improved UI convenience and MFBD performance and new toolkit DriveTrain.

Main features of UI Convenience and RecurDyn/Professional

Relation Map Enhancements
The Relation Map has been improved to better understand the relationships between entities. The new diagram option allows to display the connection relationship left to right. Icon supports for each entity so that Rigid bodies, Flexible bodies, Joints, Forces, Contacts, PP, PV, and Groups are displayed with different icons. It helps users intuitively understand the connections for complex models.

The Highlight that emphasizes the lines associated with selected entities has been added entities can be sorted in three ways. The Properties window of an entity can be easily opened by right-clicking on the selected entity in the diagram.

Campbell Diagram
The 2D Campbell Diagram function has been improved and a 3D Campbell Diagram function has been added. This function is used to analyze the vibration characteristics of a rotating body.

- Support for Campbell Diagram (3D) with new charts separate from existing Campbell Diagrams
- New charts for both 2D (Color Map) and 3D (Waterfall)
- Lighter and faster Campbell Diagram reduces analysis time
- Order Line display on Campbell Diagram (only for 2D)
- Section View display (only for 2D)
- Various other graphing options

Campbell Diagrams allow users to review the vibration characteristics and rotation speed of a rotating body. The new and improved Campbell Diagrams are lighter and faster enabling faster analysis. The new 3D graph function allows users to intuitively understand graphs of RPM, Frequency and Amplitude. In addition, various vibration characteristics on the new graphs can be easily understood using the Order Line and Section View functions.

Improved Multi Flexible Body Dynamics.

Mesher Enhancements
Various improvements have been made to the Mesher. The order of icons has been changed to fit the normal work order when using the Mesher.

FunctionBay RecurDyn V9R3

With the improved Extrude/Spin/Sweep Manual Mesh, users can easily create uniform meshes for a bevel or helical gear.

FFlex and RFlex Enhancements
Functions related to pre-processing and post-processing of FFlex and RFlex have been improved for more convenient operation. Delete Unused Flexible Material and Properties that automatically deletes unused materials and properties has been added. Users can select Patch or Line type in the Add/Remove (Continuous) option when generating a Node Set, BC, pr Output for Beams. The Legend display of Export Contour Data has been improved so that the information displayed in the legend is now more specific. When selecting by Node, Node, Patch, Line, and Element Set are selectable.

Pre-processing and post-processing for FFlex and RFlex have been improved. The processing speed is faster for solver file generation (Export RMD), result file generation for flexible bodies (Output File Regeneration), result animation generation for flexible bodies (Animation), etc. It also takes less time to open a large model file with a flexible body or to switch to FFlex Body Edit Mode.

- Speed to open a large model file with flexible bodies / Speed to switch from FFlex Body Edit Mode to Assembly Edit Mode: 1.5 to 2 times faster on average (up to 5 times faster when there are many Solid10 elements)
- Solver file generation with FFlex (Export RMD): about 2.5 times faster
- Generation speed of a flexible body result file (Displacement Data (*.rfa)): About 2 times faster than RecurDyn V9R2 when post-processing or Output Regenerator is executed after analysis
- Importing an animation file and playing an animation with flexible bodies: Improved speed for models with more than 100,000 elements

RecurDyn is an interdisciplinary, computer-aided engineering (CAE) software package whose primary function is the simulation of Multi-Body Dynamics (MBD). RecurDyn simulates both rigid and flexible body dynamics by combining traditional rigid MBD with cutting-edge finite element technology for modeling flexible bodies. In addition, RecurDyn also includes a tightly-integrated controller design tool, design optimization, particle dynamics for granular materials, and durability and fatigue analysis. RecurDyn also supports co-simulation with various other computer-aided engineering software tools. RecurDyn includes a seamless co-simulation environment for coupled simulations with computational fluid dynamics solver, Particleworks from Prometech, allowing for detailed analysis of the interaction of fluids and multi-body systems.

RecurDyn employs world-leading technologies in both its solver to provide superior calculation speed and robust performance and in its GUI to provide an extremely powerful yet intuitive, easy-to-use environment for full pre- and post-processing. The GUI includes extensive customization tools to allow users to simplify and automate RecurDyn, and couple RecurDyn with their own workflow methods.

RecurDyn includes a large selection of toolkits to add functionality specific to various fields of engineering, such as paper handling, gears, tracked vehicles, and more. The base component of RecurDyn is RecurDyn/Professional, which includes the GUI, the solver, and ProcessNet, a powerful and complete customization environment. RecurDyn/Professional is required to use any additional toolkits.

This tutorial covers how to perform co-simulation between RecurDyn and Particleworks. In this tutorial, co-simulation is performed on the dynamic interaction between the flexible bodies of RecurDyn and the fluid particles of Particleworks.

The model that will be covered in this tutorial is the Styler mechanism. The Styler is used to shake off the dust attached to cloth and to remove its wrinkles with steam. This tutorial analyzes the dynamic interaction between the clothes, which is expressed as a flexible body, and the steam, which is expressed as particles. After the co-simulation, we will also check the stress formed as the particles touch the flexible body, using the Contour function of RecurDyn.
