The IDEA RS product team is pleased to announce the availability of IDEA StatiCa 10.1. This version brings an exceptional volume of new features and improvements with the focus to enable engineers to work faster, evaluate the requirements of the national code thoroughly and use the optimal amount of material.

IDEA StatiCa 10.1 Release notes - Date: 13/09/2019

We are really proud to introduce a brand-new version of IDEA StatiCa Connection 10.1. This version brings an exceptional volume of new features and improvements. All that with our focus to enable engineers to work faster, evaluate requirements of the national code.

IDEA StatiCa Connection

Seismic check
New Capacity design analysis type replaces the current Member capacity design. The new analysis is capable of code-check joints in seismic areas all around the world because it provides a high-level customization. The Dissipative item operation is added in which members or plates with applied overstrength factor are selected. Also, the strain-hardening factor can be customized. Occurrence of a plastic hinge can be analyzed and proofed. Capacity design analysis is provided for all available codes (EN, AISC, CISC, AS, SP).

SLS check of cross-section local deformation for hollow members.
SP – Russian design code
The Russian steel design code SP 16 for steel-to-steel joints was implemented. Components bolts, preloaded bolts and welds are checked according to SP 16 including detailing. Detailing check for bolts was implemented too. Steel grades, bolt grades, and typical Russian steel cross-sections are now listed in the library.
Manufacturing operations
- Stiffener – can be added automatically to welded cross-sections too. The stiffener itself changes its dimensions according to the smaller flange now.
- Welding of hollow section members on each other (by means of bounding box method). Even different thicknesses can be welded together.
- Mitre cut for stiffening members – stiffening member can be cut and welded on both sides in mitre cut manufacturing operations.
- Hollow member cut by a plate – for the gusset plates, the true contour is cut into the hollow member now.

CAD links update
A lot of effort was put to improve BIM procedure in the way of better detection of the welds. In the version 10.0, welds longitudinal to the beam are imported correctly in frame joints.
FEA links update
The BIM link with SAP2000 was updated so that the current version of SAP2000 21.0 is fully supported now.

IDEA StatiCa Steel Member

Steel member is a brand-new application which takes the Component-based finite element method from IDEA StatiCa Connection and applies it on a bigger scale – to whole parts of a structure: members, columns and frames.

The application is aiming to analyze the beam buckling and lateral-torsional buckling phenomena considering the real influence of the end and intermediate joints. Engineers will perform the basic beam stability analysis in FEA applications still in a way that they are used to. IDEA StatiCa Steel Member will allow more precise analysis of atypical or complicated members.

IDEA StatiCa 10.1 brings a BETA version of IDEA StatiCa Steel Member for structural analysis and design of bar members (beams, columns, diagonals, etc.) to demonstrate the calculation possibilities. BETA version is not publicly available.

We are happy to release a new version of IDEA StatiCa Concrete. Version 10.1 is another enhancement of design process focused on beams, cross-sections, walls, dapped ends, openings, hangings, brackets and other concrete details. Highligts of this version are:

- Rebar optimization for IDEA StatiCa Detail
- New templates for defining diaphragms

All of this with precise checks of concrete and reinforcement strength, stresses and strains. Everything that the code requires, with results clearly visualized for better understanding of the structural behavior.

Based on a unique Continuous stress field method (CSFM), IDEA StatiCa Detail is bringing complex structural design and code-check into daily work of concrete engineers. While the previous release improved the calculation capabilities, this one is focused on material optimization and time-savings for structural engineers.

Rebar optimization

The optimization rebar tool enables to define optimal area of reinforcements and helps engineers to design the reinforcements with maximal utilization. We use to optimization only ultimate limit state combinations. Bilinear stress-strain diagram of reinforcement material with plastic branch allows maximal utilization of rebars. Using the checkboxes, we can select what we want to optimize – one group of bars, all longitudinal rebars or all groups of bars. When we select optimization of one group of bars only, the calculation runs for this group and all the other diameters are not considered.

Another option is to optimize all the longitudinal rebars of the detail, wall or beam at once. In this case, user has to be aware of the fact that the group of bars are optimized together – due to interaction among reba groupsr, the resultant utilization can be different to the utilization of only one group of bars.

New templates of diaphragms

New templates introduce faster way of creating standardly used bridge diaphragms. You can use the new templates of box girder diaphragm, multi-cell box girder diaphragm, indirectly supported double tee bridge and directly supported double tee bridge. These templates contain loads in the form of shear and torsion from the permanent and variable load cases, which are transferred through the walls of the box girder cross-section.

We are happy to release a new version of IDEA StatiCa Concrete. Version 10.1 is another enhancement of design process focused on beams, cross-sections, walls, dapped ends, openings, hangings, brackets and other concrete details. Highligts of this version are:

- IOM for RCS – complete cross-section (reinforced or prestressed) can be defined using the IOM, all checks for ULS and SLS are available

All of this with precise checks of concrete and reinforcement strength, stresses and strains. Everything that the code requires, with results clearly visualized for better understanding of the structural behavior.

Input data from XML to IOM

IOM (IDEA open model) was extended by the data for check of the reinforced and prestressed cross-sections using RCS application. Interface of the program contains almost all data used in RCS application. At the same time, the library where the user can call the third-party applications and launch the checks and read the check results was created. Results are in the IOM format.

New Capacity design for seismic check of connections and joints removes the last obstacle for IDEA StatiCa to be used in every project around the world. Reliable and quick connection design in a smooth interface, connected to BIM, that is the new IDEA StatiCa.
