Windows 10 version 20H1 Build 19041.572 Business / Consumer Editions

Microsoft is making available the update KB4579311 for PCs running Windows 10 version 2004. This is the ninth quality update available for this version, and it’s a small update that addresses several problems.

KB4579311 bumps the version number to build 19041.572, and according to the software giant, fixes a problem with verifying usernames and password, and improves security for Office apps and Windows performs basic operations. (Since version 2004 and 20H2 share the same core file system, both versions are receiving the same fixes.)

Improvements and fixes
This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
- Addresses an issue with a possible elevation of privilege in win32k.
- Addresses an issue with the Group Policy service that might recursively delete critical files in alphabetic order from %systemroot%\system32. This issue occurs when a policy has been configured to delete cached profiles. These file deletions might cause stop error “0x5A (CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILED)” boot failures.
- Addresses an issue with creating null ports using the user interface.
- Security updates to Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Virtualization, and Windows Kernel.




Known as the May 2020 Update (and version 2004), this new version of Windows 10 is all about fit and finish. There's not a whole lot new here in regards to features, but there are plenty of changes and enhancements to features that have already been part of the OS for some time.

Microsoft's latest Windows 10 feature update follows the same yymm naming syntax as its predecessors (versions 1809, 1903, 1909, and so on). Microsoft targeted version 2004 for general release in April 2020 (yy=20, mm=04), making the confusing name inevitable. And let's not even talk about the even more baffling version 2009 or 2010, which will arrive in the second half of 2020.

Confusing names aside, this feature update has a lot to recommend it. Under the new Windows Update rules, version 2004 is optional on a PC that's already running either of the 2019 feature updates.

This release will be delivered as a full OS update, and not as a cumulative update like Windows 10 version 1909. This is because the changes at release are a little more substantial, even if that may not seem like the case on the surface.
