Released later in the same year as its predecessor, Wong Jing's lengthy and involved crime epic Casino Tycoon II continues the story of Benny Ho Hsin (Andy Lau) who rose from poverty in the first film to become a real-estate and casino mogul despite suffering numerous tragedies along the way. The sequel has Benny falling in love with an attractive young actress named Ti Yun (Michelle Lee) and dealing with problems caused by his former partner Nieh (Lau Siu-ming). As in the original, numerous complications ensue, including a plot by some unscrupulous mathematicians to rip off the casino with a specially devised version of Morse code, and the murder of Benny's son which is engineered by Fu Chia-chin's widow – and Benny's ex-lover – Vivian (Joey Wang). Chingmy Yau returns as Mei, and Alex Man is back as Benny's friend Nan. Sandra Ng and Dennis Chan co-star.
