As a storm rages outside, Sarah, her family and friends shore up for the night, cut off from the outside world. But something comes out of the driving rain and darkness. Mitsuru and Miwa kidnap a little girl in the hopes of collecting a huge ransom, but their risky plan takes a bizarre turn when the parents of the girl claim she has been dead for a year to the day. While holed up in an abandoned school building with their comrades deciding what to do next, very strange and violent things begin to happen as Mitsuru becomes increasingly mesmerized by the seemingly innocuous little girl.

With the captains down, Ichigo charges forward at Aizen but is stopped by Yamamoto who tells him to stay away from the fight. Aizen stabs Yamamoto who initiates his Ennetsu Jigoku technique to trap him, which will kill both of them in the process. However, Wonderweiss appears and extinguishes Yamamoto's flames, revealing himself to have the ability to nullify Ryūjin Jakka. Yamamoto and Wonderweiss engage in unarmed combat, in which the former shatters the latter's body to pieces using a hand-to-hand technique, Sōkotsu. As Yamamoto stands before Aizen again, Wonderweiss unleashes the flames sealed in his body as he dies. Yamamoto uses his body to minimize the damage the explosion causes, but is left severely injured. Aizen approaches the immobile Yamamoto and prepares to finish him off, but Yamamoto uses his body as catalyst for the powerful Hadō spell, Ittō Kasō, and catches Aizen in the ensuing explosion. As Aizen manages to get away relatively unscathed, Ichigo attacks him.

London and Woody go to a posh beach club for senior ditch day, but when the bouncer won't let Woody in, London and Zack go without him. Meanwhile, in an effort to keep their perfect attendance records, Bailey and Cody show up for class, which annoys Ms. Tutweiller who was looking forward to her day off.

In a playground in the centre of the urban idyll, the police find a buried wooden box containing a well-known and respected prosecutor. Martin Beck and his police team initially suspect a seriously criminal MC-leader of the attack, but one pretty soon has to re-evaluate the case once the MC-leader is found murdered in a similar wooden box. Soon, more wooden boxes are found and the police realize that they are part of a cat and mouse game with a crazy serial killer. The investigation soon shows that there is a vague connection between the victims in the shape of a 9 year old event. What Martin Beck does not suspect, however, is that also his own life is at stake, as the murderer has chosen him as the next victim.
