The father of Harriers (9 years) works as a doctor in a war zone. Kiek is afraid that something will happen to him: a kidnapping, a stray bullet… She wants no dead dad! So she has a dead dog and a dead mouse. Because how often do you hear that someone has a dead dog, a dead mouse and a dead daddy? Harriers get the lead in the school play. But when they get very long without news of Dad, turn to the concern. She can not focus on acting and also keep mum.

My family and I were very entertained by this delightfully moving , thoughtful, and amusing film which is based on Een Kleine Kans, the award winning book by Marjolijn Hof. The acting is natural, and excellent, with a fine performance by the newcomer Pippa Allen aged 10 yrs, playing the part of Kiek. The good reviews are well justified - it is a beautiful 'family movie' - which will appeal to young and old alike. The clever animated sections are very good too as they indicate what might be going on in the mind of young Kiek who worries a lot about her doctor father being in a dangerous war zone in Afghanistan. The film exercises the emotions - a child of eight trying to cope with her anxieties and searching for a solution. Rather bizarre solutions result, involving a sick old mouse, and a dog, and many adventures! It is so well directed too, and hopefully it will be distributed beyond Europe, with appropriate subtitles.IMDB Reviewer
