Singer Guitarist in such bands as Matthews Southern Comfort, Fairport Convention and of course his own solo works and now author with his new book 'Thro' My Eyes' released this year.
More than twenty tracks spanning Iain's entire career were initially selected from which eleven made the final album. Songs from his solo albums, Plainsong, and Matthews Southern Comfort are all given a refreshing new lease of life and include a new version of Woodstock and a brand new song 'I Threw My Hat'. They join two previously never recorded songs – Reno Nevada from his Fairport days and 'Dylan's 'It Takes A Lot To Laugh' that Iain regularly included in his live shows.

Iain Matthews of Fairport Convention, Southern Comfort and Plainsong fame, returns, after a long absence, with a stunning collection of new songs and stunning jazz arrangements. On paper the pairing of Iain Maatthews and Edbert Derix is a strange one. Egbert Derix is an established jazz composer, from the Netherlands and Iain Matthew's roots, have taken hold in contemporary singer/songwriter circles. However, if we break down these borders, look deeper and think in terms of quality, rather than genres, it's a musical marriage made in heaven. Their second collaborative album focuses around some remarkable new songs. Matthews draws deep upon his recollections of London in the swinging 'sixties – 'When The Floyd Were On The Prow'l and some powerful reflections upon life now – 'Pebbles In The Road' and 'Joy Mining'.

In 1972, several years after leaving both Fairport Convention and his own group, Matthews Southern Comfort, Iain Matthews was once again struck with a case of musical wanderlust and decided to pack in his solo career and form a new group, Plainsong. At the time, Matthews still owed an album to Vertigo Records, and rather than give them Plainsong's debut, he booked a studio for five days and cut a solo album dominated by covers of songs from American tunesmiths, with only two original songs appearing on the set.
