for Melanoma, Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer»

Springer | ISBN: 1402070136 | October 2002 | PDF | 128 Pages | 7,4 Mb

Atlas of Selective Lymphadenectomy for Melanoma, Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach combining the experiences of a nuclear medicine physician, surgeon, and pathologist. This is an important reference also for researchers and clinicians who want to become familiar with sentinel lymph node mapping. The underlying thesis in solid tumor biology is that metastasis in general starts in an orderly progression with lymphatic spread first to the sentinel lymph node (SLN) in the nearest lymph node basin. Therefore, the logical approach is to harvest that specific SLN for thorough analysis.

«Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis: An Integrated Approach»
Springer | ISBN: 3540212809 | May 2005 | PDF | 258 Pages | 4,84 Mb

In the past decade it has become increasingly clear that psoriatic disease, both of the skin and joints, can be a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the physician and a debilitating illness for the patient. At the same time, advances in genetics and immunology have increased our understanding of the pathophysiology of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. This text contains a comprehensive discussion by an international group of experts in psoriatic disease of the pathomechanisms, genetics, diagnosis, and treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. The information is presented in parallel in order to emphasize the similarities and differences between these two diseases that so commonly occur together. We believe that this approach will make this text an important resource for all practitioners who treat patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

pages: 404 pages
Publisher: Greenwich Medical Media
ISBN: 1841100919
Format: PDF
Size: 6.09 MB
Summary:
Even the most experienced clinician cannot be expected to remember all the relevant details of so many and varied uncommon problems of the seriously ill. Some of these problems can be overlooked in even a major Intensive Care textbook, most can be found eventually in specialist textbooks but the impact on intensive care management might well still be disregarded. This book offers a unique approach. Uncommon problems relevant to intensive care have been gathered into a single volume, in which they have been described in sufficient detail to avert much of the need to refer to specialized texts. Moreover, their implications for intensive care management have been highlighted. The book is intended to provide an easy and practical reference, alphabetically arranged, for the clinician at any level faced with such problems at the patient's bedside.

This dual atlas aims at illustrating the anatomy of the brain and its appearance on MR images using a simple and effective mode of presentation. Following an introductory chapter, "Comprehensive anatomy of the human brain", the book is divided into a morphological and a functional imaging section. The morphological atlas presents 3D surface images followed by high-definition MR sections acquired in the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes. The MR images are paired with the corresponding anatomical images to enable their clinical correlation. The functional atlas includes illustrative MR images showing cortical activation in various functional areas (including the auditory, motor, visual, and language areas).

Human Microbiology

Human Microbiology
by Simon Hardy
Human Microbiology

This text provides a concise review of the biology of the three important groups of micro-organisms that infect humans: bacteria, viruses and fungi. It examines the biology of micro-organisms that infect humans, and considers the key features that characterize micro-organisms that cause illness and those that do not. It concentrates attention on the underlying principles that determine why certain microbes are harmful and places this behaviour in terms of the biology of parasitism in general. Human Microbiology is not intended to cover all aspects of general microbiology and does not catalogue the entire canon of infectious agents, but it demystifies the increasing reportage of human infections.

«Fungal Allergy and Pathogenicity (Chemical Immunology)»
S Karger AG | ISBN: 380557391X | May 2002 | 310 Pages | 2,25 Mb

The importance of fungal organisms as allergens and pathogens has been increasing considerably over the last decade. This is due, on the one hand, to a general increase in the incidence of allergies, but also to the growing number of immunocompromized individuals such as AIDS patients or transplant recipients. This book summarizes what is currently known about the allergens of Candida, Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Alternaria, Coprinus, and Psilocybe, among others, and describes the application of recombinant allergens for diagnosis and new forms of therapy. The virulence factors and defense mechanisms against Aspergillus and Candida infections are discussed as are the various causes of superficial skin infections with fungi and the aerobiology of fungal spores and mycelia. A comprehensive chapter on fungal toxins and their importance for human and animal health is included, followed by a summary of the present state of fungal genome sequencing.
