Dark At Dawn - Dark At Dawn (2006)

Gothic Influenced Power Metal | mp3 | CBR@256kbps | 83 Mb

Dark at Dawn is the fifth album of the same called German metal band and the second one on the AMF-label. Considering the band's name you should expect dark metal, well you want be disappointed because that is exactly what you are going to get. The voice of singer Thorsten Kohlrausch definitely fits with the music. His brutal voice sounds aggressive and mean. His voice would turn a love story into a horror event.
My favorite song is Avalon, a song with a beautiful intro that changes into a doom metal song, the voice of Kohlrausch is sounding huge heavy, halfway there is an intermission with drums and flute and the ending is almost symphonic; great structure!

Atmospheric Gothic Metal | mp3 | CBR192/320kbps | 73+76+125+89+57 Mb

Epica fans probably know that the band has a special liking for the atmosphere of certain symphonic soundtracks. Epica's founder Mark Jansen, for instance, is a huge fan of the compositions of Hans Zimmer, who is responsible for soundtracks like Gladiator and The last Samurai. Already a few years ago … Epica was pleasantly surprised by the request to compose music for a movie called Joyride

Persefone - Core (2006)

Melodic/Symphonic Death Metal | VBR~240kbps | 131 Mb

…the original concept of the album is the mythical legend of PERSEFONE (also the name of the band) who to put it short was condemned to live half the year in hell etc.
This theme revolves or gets transposed in three long tracks (with a symphonical approach quite new in a death metal group even if melodic…)… So, I recommended you stop for a while after listening the first three tracks WHICH ARE THE CONCEPT ALBUM THEY WANTED TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE!…

To/Die/For - Wounds Wide Open (2006)

Gothic Metal | VBR~240kbps | 71 Mb

The story of To/Die/For began in the early nineties when three guys from Kouvola, Finland formed a rock band called Mary-Ann. Back then founder member Jarno "Jape" Perфtalo handled both vocals and guitars while Tonmi Lillman played the drums and Make Kanki played the bass. Over the years Mary-Ann's lineup grew with keyboardist Juska Salminen and guitarists Andy & J-P Sutela, while the bass-playing duties were handed over to Miikka "Sepe" Kuisma.
During its existence Mary-Ann released two self-financed CDs, the latter of which, "Deeper Sin", included songs that would eventually end up on the albums of To/Die/For.

Limbonic Art - 3 albums (1998, 1999, 2002)

Symphonic Black Metal | CBR@192kbps | 72+106+73 Mb

This is probably my favourite album ever and so the 10/10 rating should come as no surprise, LIMBONIC ART having successfully crafted a maelstrom of malignant magnificence that basically sweeps all from its path. Here the keyboard emphasis of old is handed over to the guitars and instead serves to accentuate the majesty of the composition. For a point of reference, think of sailing on the strength of the solar wind racing past gas giants and dead worlds. Think also of witnessing the relics of dead histories.

L'ame Immortelle - Auf Deinen Schwingen (2006, Ltd.Ed.)
Electro Gothic Rock | VBR~210kbps | 92 Mb

“Back with their second album for the Gun Supersonic label, German Darkwave / Gothic giants L'ame Immortelle return with "Auf Deinen Schwingen".

In the usual L'ame Immortelle way this new album is a pristine offering of perfectly assembled emotions, combined and embedded within their usual array of dark, lustrous synths, heavy guitar riffs and beatifully blended Gothic/Pop sensibilities.

Melancholy yet uplifting, sweeping and melodic yet aggressive, L'ame Immortelle are all of these and much more - new album "Auf Deinen Schwingen" is the next evolutionary step from this unique and much loved band that is sure to propel them to even further greatness.

This is the limited edition version that contains 3 bonus tracks”.

All the way through this CD, you are guaranteed no less than all nine of the tracks being filled with intelligent, intriguing and very experimental compositions. For some, this CD will turn you off because it's not straight up cold BM from Norway, but for others this new release filled with many dimensions and textures will not only find it alluring, but addicting as well.

Sunterra - 2 albums: 2002 & 1999

Symphonic Gothic Metal | CBR@192/VBR~215kbps | 72+72 Mb

Sunterra is a very high-energy symphonic gothic metal band from Austria with female, death and black vocals.
The female vocals are smooth, ephemeral and somewhat background, and add yet another dimension of beauty to the melodies. The male vocals are a combination of death-style growls and black-style rasps, and they are harsh, aggressive and menacing. Sometimes they play off the female vocals and sometimes they all sing together. The production is very satisfying - not as full and symphonic as Tristania, but still rich and warm with solid bass.

“Stylewise you still can categorise the Norwegians as Gothic Metal with alternating harsh and frail vocals, while using less heavy parts, if compared to TRISTANIA, yet especially through the violin with a very interesting atmosphere. – © metal-observer.com

"Pleasure And Pain" is their fifth studio album and music critics already consider it as the best album of their career even from the very first listening during studio reports. The famous special guests that are present on this album witnessed all this. We're talking about: Bruno Kramm of Das Ich, Flegias of Necrodeath, Dhiloz of Ancient and members of Ensoph and Stormlord. The album contains 9 tracks and 2 bonus tracks: "Pleasure And Pain", remixed by Bruno Kramm (Das Ich), and "Mater Tenebrarum" (cover). "Never Again", "Rosa Mistero", "My Lullaby" and "Forever In Death" are only some examples of this fantastic album! Extraordinary vocal parts performed by Sonya who also wrote all the lyrics for "Pleasure And Pain". Excellent production and excellent musicians.

Gothic Black Metal | CBR@320 & CBR@192kbps | 114 Mb & 59 Mb

Instead of an ear-splitting attack of screeching vocals and hyperblast-drumming with a subterranean production we are graced by a highly interesting mixture of Gothic and Black Metal, with a good portion of THERION-esque choir-arrangements thrown in to further spice things up. In the multi-layered songs you can find Black-ish shrieks as well as very melodic Gothic sounding vocals and the already mentioned choirs, which give the Italians an almost musical-like flair surrounding the very variable songs, which despite the different elements never lose the flow within the compositions.

Mortal Love - I Have Lost... (2005) [with bonus tracks]

Romantic Gothic Metal | mp3 | CBR@320kbps | 174 Mb

…Mortal Love don't always follow the usual paths and try more experimental stuff. Serenity and Spine are two tracks where goth is spiced with crossover elements which is unusual, but surprisingly not bad. These songs are a bit harder than the typical gothic stuff.
The majority of the album is very traditional. But as the songs are well structured, instrumentated and sung, I suppose that fans from the goth and metal scenes will appreciate most parts of I Have Lost. Empathy for instance is very typical, but possibly the album's highlight. If it's too melodic for you, try the more bombastic Sanity. There is not a single blackout on the record and compared to the debut, Mortal Love have done the suggested improvement. They are at the moment one of the best goth bands.
