Michel Sardou est né à Paris le 26 janvier 1947. Fils de comédiens (Fernand et Jackie), il arrête ses études en Terminale et anime les soirées du cabaret de son père. Michel Sardou sort son 1er 45 tours Le Madras en 1965. Lentement mais sûrement, il fait son chemin. En 1969, sa chanson Les Ricains est boycottée par les radios, ce qui décide Barclay à se séparer de lui. L'année suivante, c'est donc chez Tréma que Michel Sardou rencontre le succès avec son titre Les Bals populaires. En 1973, sa carrière finit de décoller avec le titre La Maladie d'Amour qui reste 10 semaines en tête des ventes. Il défraye ensuite la chronique avec des chansons polémiques tels que Je Suis pour dans laquelle il fait allusion à la loi du Talion. Des manifestations anti-Sardou le force à annuler sa tournée en 1976. Il signe ensuite régulièrement des albums et enrichit le patrimoine de la variété française avec Etre une femme, Le Lac du Connemara, Vladimir Ilitch, Musulmanes. Parallèlement, Michel Sardou s'essaie au cinéma avec L'Eté de nos quinze ans (1982), Cross (1987) ou encore Promotion Canapé (1992). Il joue également dans quelques pièces de théâtre. En 2000, il sort l'album Français qui est suivi, 4 ans plus tard, par Loin qui reçoit un très bon accueil. Son dernier disque en date, paru en 2006, s’intitule Hors format.
