This catalogue features the renowned Robert Lehman collection of Italian Majolica. Assembled mainly in the 1920's and 30's, it is regarded as the finest of its sort in the USA. Although the majority of the pieces were produced in the first half of the sixteenth century, the High Renaissance when the finest Majolica was produced, the collection covers the period of manufacture between 1400 and 1650.
There are 157 items described; most are illustrated in high quality color reproductions, the rest in good black and white. In comparison with the catalogue describing the British Museum's collection where there are many more examples, but of variable standard, Lehman has assembled a more select group of mainly exceptional quality.
The production standards of this catalogue are well above avarage and I strongly recommend it to all enthusiasts of Italian Majolica.
