The primary objective of the book is to provide understanding of fundamental concepts, principles and techniques underlying accounting process and analysis of accounting information.

Accounting is a service activity, which provides financial information about economic entities that is intended to be useful in making economic decisions. Like other discipline in social sciences, accounting is also influenced by the transformation in the socio-economic environment that takes place with the passage of time. Since the publication of the first edition of this book, there have been some changes in the accounting environment also. At the same time, many Universities have switched over to the semester system from the annual system-enlarging the course curriculum and incorporating contemporary changes in related field of study.

All these necessitate a thorough revision of the book. While conducting classroom tests and discussion it has been possible for the authors to know the students strength and weakness in analysing corporate financial statements. This has helped in the revision of textual contents of the book. Therefore, the revision is undertaken keeping in view the requirement of students and course curriculum, changes in company laws and newer developments in the field of accounting to meet both the theoretical and practical needs of the users of the book.
