Highway Engineering

This text covers all necessary material as per requirements of syllabi of various universities of India for undergraduate course of Highway Engineering. The whole subject matter has been presented in a very systematic manner in total nineteen chapters. Starting from the Introduction of the subject to Highway Planning, Highway alignment aspects, Design of various elements of highway for safe, comfortable, and economical journey, Traffic Engineering which is essential part to be considered for any highway, and Highway Materials and Testing for providing durable highway pavements, have been presented in Chapters 1 to 6. Chapters 7 to 12 are devoted to various types of roads for use in different conditions. Important factor-Drainage of any highway is discussed in Chapter 13. Chapter 14 deals with the Road Side Amenities which must be provided along any highway to provide a pleasant and comfortable journey. Chapters 15 to 18 cover some of the other related matters to the highway construction, such as Construction Equipment and Plants, Maintenance works for highways, Economics and Finances involved and Estimates. The Intelligent Transport System (ITS) being an essential requirement for smart cities has been introduced in Chapter 19.
