Analysis of Drum and Disk Storage Units

Analysis of Drum and Disk Storage Units by Samuel H. Fuller
English | 1975 | ISBN: 0387071865 | 283 Pages | PDF | 20.4 MB

This is a classic text published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Although out-of-print, in an area that would seem irrelevant in the light of current disk technology, it provides a great look at storage technology, terms and formulas from the context of the point of origin. There are many useful I/O and drive mechanics concepts, for example rotation, scheduling disciplines, latency, queuing, etc. It is a good text for any person who explains or teaches storage concepts. Why? By using the time machine of drum storage, one can teach the concepts without the preconceived notions. Recognizing this impact, I took these patterns into consideration when writing Knowledge Transfer's courses that support SNIA certification (S10-101 Storage Network Foundations). The impact on students was that they absorbed the current technology more quickly.
