The bare record of this amazing man’s life doesn't begin to tell his story. He traveled from his home in northern Italy to Ireland, by way of Switzerland and down the Rhine to the sea, working his way on a raft made of logs for ship-building, when he was only 16. He was incarcerated (briefly!) in Ireland for selling pictures of Napoleon. He turned himself into millionaire with a transport network he founded with a single Jaunting Car. He became an excellent Landlord who saved the lives of many during the Famine and paid for their passage to America. He married and founded a dynasty, and is nowhere near as well known as he deserves to be.
