Oil and Gas Law: Legal Framework Developing of Transboundary Resources

Extension of costal states sovereign rights by inclusion of maritime areas, such as the “continental shelf” and “exclusive economic zone” led to booming offshore exploration and production activities. However, extension of these rights also led to disputes between neighbouring states due to their high desire to possess these valuable resources.

Consequently, easily applicable, binding legal regimes and obligatory practices are crucial to avoiding potential future issues.
This book provide analysis of legal framework and industry practices which exists for neighbouring states to develop transboundary offshore oil and gas resources. Case studies of three pairs of neighbouring states, such as: Norway – UK, USA – Mexico and Australia – Timor-Leste illustrate oil and gas projects cycle from exploration to cessation of production and decommissioning.
