World War I, also called the Great War, was a world war that first broke out in Europe from July 28, 1914 and ended on November 11, 1918. I described the time of its occurrence as a "war that will end all wars", which brought together more than 70 million military personnel, 60 million of them Europeans, to take part in one of the biggest wars in history. More than nine million fighters and seven million civilians were killed as a result of the war, and it is also a contributing factor to a number of genocide and Spanish flu crimes in 1918, which caused between 50 and 100 million deaths worldwide. The rate of military losses has been exacerbated by the technical and industrial development of the combatants, and the tactical stagnation caused by the harsh trench warfare. War is one of the fiercest conflicts in history, and it has paved the way for major political changes that included the revolutions of 1917–23 in many common nations. Unresolved conflicts contributed to the end of the conflict at the start of World War II after twenty years.
