    Publisher: Peter Lang Publishing | 2004 | ISBN 0820468924 | PDF | 248 pages | 1.16 MB

All the contributors to this volume have been closely associated with the Centre for the Study of Literature, Theology and the Arts in the University of Glasgow, either as students, teachers or visiting fellows. Between them they represent the rich diversity of intellectual activity that has characterized the work of the Centre over the eleven years of its life in Glasgow, and before that for five years in the University of Durham, England. When it was founded the Centre was dedicated to the study of literature and theology, as was the journal of that title, with which the Centre has maintained close connections. In many ways life in those days was much simpler, and it was assumed that our work was at the identifiable face of, for example, the Bible and literature, or exploring the theological and religious themes (usually Christian) within the great works of literature. The theoretical basis within the humanities, and the political implications of such work remained very largely unexplored and even unacknowledged.
