Deluge on a Luge: Get up to Speed with Deluge Script for Zoho CRM and Zoho Creator by Jeremy Nagel

This book will teach you how to develop in Deluge script, a proprietary scripting language used by Zoho for its products including Zoho Creator and Zoho CRM. I’m writing this to pass on the knowledge I’ve built up over the last six years working with a range of Zoho products. I love the power of Deluge coupled with Zoho Creator/CRM. Once you know what you’re doing, you can very quickly pump out some code to automate an otherwise onerous task in any of the Zoho products. My hope is that you will come to enjoy working with Deluge as well and learn from the missteps I’ve taken while learning the language.

This book assumes no prior programming experience (though you might find it easier to digest if you have prior experience with other programming languages). Deluge is relatively easy to learn so it can be an ideal introduction to programming.

If you want to do anything advanced in Zoho Creator or Zoho CRM, you will need to learn Deluge script. Here are some of the things you can achieve with Deluge:
1.Copy information from an account to a potential to avoid manual double entry.
2.Set up an integration with Google Maps to obtain the longitude and latitude of a client’s address.
3.Assign CRM leads to certain salespeople when a field is changed.
4.Calculate the distance between your headquarters and the client’s office.
5.Hide and show fields in Zoho Creator depending on what value the user chooses in a dropdown.
Almost any manual task in Zoho CRM/Creator can be automated using Deluge script.

By the end of this book, you’ll be a confident Deluge developer, able to write your own custom functions and wire up Creator apps. Although you won’t know everything, you’ll know where to look when you get stuck. If you start to really enjoy working with Deluge, you can consider taking the certified Zoho Developer exam and start your own business helping other Zoho users around the world.
