While people in major cities and developed countries enjoy an ever-expanding selection of applications and other innovations to help them live more efficient, safer and entertaining lives, millions in the hinterlands of Africa, Asia and Latin America are still waiting for the digital revolution to arrive. Yet recent advances in information and communications technologies hold enormous potential for reducing poverty and improving lives through innovation and creativity which bring sustainable solutions, and there are some encouraging cases of digital innovations that are already doing this.

More recently, the revolution has been shifted to the higher levels because of the Coronavirus 2019 pandemic which affected the globe. Research and development was accelerated in search of immediate and long term solutions to save the globe. Digital Inclusion as a goal was achieve, I think five time before its projected period. This contributed to the Digital Revolution, Innovation, Change, adaptability and Sustainability were embraced.

In 2016, Zurich-based Barry Callebaut Group- a leading manufacturer of chocolate and cocoa products- announced its collaboration with SAP to offer an innovative app to boost sustainability data management. The system, which went live in June of 2016, aimed to cover all of the approximately 65,000 farmers who were participating in the company’s sustainability activities in Cфte d’Ivoire.

One of the first African enterprises to use that app was the Kalangala Oil Palm Growers Trust, a smallholder organisation in Uganda. The software helps the Trust to coordinate the production and delivery of palm fruit to processors, payments to farmers, and the administration of loans and other member services. The Trust’s transparent management of approximately US $3 million in sales in 2016 improved members’ incomes and has inspired more farmers to work with the organisation.

The pages of this script looks at digital revolution and its impact on society. Digital revolution brings change, innovation, adaptability and sustainability in all human advancements.

It is the author’s desire to make a lasting and strong contribution to the thriving development of digitisation. Recognizing the major transformations facing the world with the rise of the fourth Industrial Revolution (Digitisation), it is important to embrace the demands of the current digital perspectives.

It must be acknowledged that, the means currently at our disposal as a country (Zambia) and continent (Africa) fall short of the needs and ambitions of institutions and people seeking meaningful opportunities to participate in digital revolution. The availability of and access to digital learning content, tools and solutions in a common language, is not a farfetched idea but a reality that we must bring to fruition.

It is unarguable that, digitisation has left no industry untouched in the world with its wave of digital transformation. The world has entered into the digital age, and technology has touched every part of the human life, whether it is business, communication, travel, health, or education. A digitized environment in every sector has the ability to transform a country through development of human resources and increased productivity.

This message runs through the pages of this book and seeks to discuss the need for and reality of digital revolution for this and the future generations.

In this book, I have chosen to add foot notes, references or technical text to support the concepts and ideas. The content was packaged together with an extensive research and acknowledge the sources of contributes and other people’s works. The purpose was not to produce a scholarly work for specialist, practitioners or scholars, but to write a practical, readable, referral and guidebook for all, in the Digital Revolution Age.
