The P-80 Shooting Star was the first operational turbojet fighter to undergo full production and thus occupies a unique position in American aviation history. The author draws on official case histories and the personal observations of the renowned aircraft designer, "Kelly" Johnson, and famous Lockheed test pilot Tony LeVier, to tell the story of the brief but eventful career of the first prototype XP-80, nicknamed Lulu-Belle, and the development of the P-80 Shooting Star series of aircraft. The book concludes with a detailed account of the restoration of this airplane.
